Manchester City defender John Stones has inherited the number five jersey vacated by Pablo Zabaleta. Stones had worn the number 24 jersey since his arrival from Everton but takes the number 5 jersey vacated by Zabaleta, who has departed the Etihad following the expiration of his contract. With the number on his back reduced, it is hoped Stones will defend like a proper defender next season.
He is yet to justify a £47.5 million price tag with lots of comedic defending that is worth at most 10,000 Zimbabwe dollars.
He made 41 appearances over the course of his debut campaign, scoring two goals.
