Statement from Martin O'Neill

Martin O'Neill

Perhaps a review of Everton's pre-season programme might provide some enlightenment.

James had a magnificent tournament for the Republic of Ireland last summer during UEFA EURO 2016, playing his last game in very late June. He then returned to Everton after a very short break, but only 11 days later, he played his first of three games, all within an eight-day period, against Real Betis, Manchester United and Espanyol. Overloading?

It should be added that James last played for his country on the October 9, 2016 - almost half a year ago. Since that time he has been totally under Everton's supervision.

James is diligent and conscientious in his professional preparation.

Perhaps, in this instance, quiet introspection may serve the Everton manager and his medical staff better.

Preston vs Nottingham Forest

Preston didn’t manage to secure a three pointer last time out two weeks ago away to Blackburn, even though they were the first one to take the lead, in 13th minute with a goal from Barkhuizen. However, hosts exploited lack of concentration in their team well and leveled up the result towards end of the first halftime via Bennett.

Same thing happened in the second halftime when the hosts took the lead suddenly after ten minutes of play via Conway, however without much of attacks later on. Players of Preston tried to react but without concrete attacks, as they were lucky to find a way to equalizer in second minute of additional time via McGeady. The team now remains undefeated in last three matches, but are at ninth position with five points less than play-off placed Sheffield Wednesday and need a victory here in order to stay competitive in promotional battle.

Home team won’t be able to count at long term absentees defenders Calum Woods (no appearance so far), Tyias Browning (5/0) and John Welsh (6/0) with the team actually being with all best players available.

Nottingham Forest, on the other side, also took a point, in a 2:2 draw also, in front of own fans against Derby County in the most recent game played. This result saw them breaking mini negative run of two defeats, but the team can’t be really very happy with the performance showed in that game.

They took the lead in fifth minute via Clough and remained with more of ball possession, however players of Derby were the ones who had much more chances created, meaning to revert the scoreline in 47th via Vydra and in 53rd via Nugent, while the players of Nottingham reached the point luckily, with a goal in fourth minute of additional time scored by Pinillos. The team is now just a point above relegating placed Blackburn and needs to get something out of this match.

Visitors won’t be able to count at goalkeeper Stephen Henderson (12/0), defender Jack Hobbs (9/0) and forward Matty Fryat (no performance so far anyway). Defender Damien Perquis (17/2) is doubtful for this one.

There’s obvious quality difference between these two teams and all Preston needs to do is to make a solid game in front of their fans. Nottingham isn’t naive, however their performances away from home have been more than disappointing all season long and I don’t see this being changed this time around.

Sassuolo vs Lazio

Sassuolo didn’t look that poor away from home against Roma, as the team showed some improvements in attack and with counter attack, but that didn’t stop players of Roma reaching quite easy victory with a 3:1 result. Visitors took the lead first, in ninth minute via Defrel, but the players of Roma upped the tempo very soon.

They scored twice in the first halftime in order to revert the scoreline, via Paredes in 16th and Salah in last moments of the halftime, while Dzeko just sealed the victory in 68th minute. This was fourth game in a row without a victory for Sassuolo, as they also scored a goal after three consecutive matches, but the side won’t be too depressed since they stand well above the relegation zone having sixteen points more than red zone placed Palermo. Home team should be field up in 4-3-3 formation with Politno, Matri and Berardi as forwards. They are set to miss midfielders Luca Mazzitelli (16/0), Francesco Magnanelli (13/0) and Davide Biondini (11/0) due injuries.

Lazio, on the other side, didn’t manage to get a victory away from home last time out, as the side had a goalless draw on the road against Cagliari two weeks ago. This draw stopped their winning streak of four matches in Seria A, five combined with the victory in Italian Cup over rivals from Roma.

Their match against Cagliari wasn’t that interesting, but it needs to be said that the players of Lazio had more of the ball possession and chances created, however without being very concrete in their attacks. Lazio remained fourth at the table and stands on Europa League position, but are now six points behind Champions League placed Napoli and having just two points more than out of Europe placed Atalanta which sits on sixth position. Guests should be lined up in 4-3-3 formation with Anderson and Lulic on the wings, plus Immobile as central striker. Their coach Simone Inzaghi could have a full squad available to chose from, as Jordan Lukaku and Federico Marchetti having some fitness problems but should be ready for the game.

Sassuolo might have improved a bit, but it won’t be enough for Lazio that has some serious quality this season. With the competitive motive being completely on the visiting side, I can’t see anything but their (quite easy) victory.

Blind Team set for European qualifiers

BlindTeam1.jpg

Preparations for these key games have been ongoing since last December with regular training sessions held on the National Sports Campus and head coach Nick Harrison feels his team have taken huge strides in their development.

Considering this will be the first time that the Ireland team have competed internationally, they are aiming high ahead of their Group A battles with Albania, Georgia and Romania.

If Ireland can finish as one of the top two teams in their group then they will qualify for the European Championships, which will be held in Germany in August. The games kicks off on April 4.

"This is Ireland's first journey into full international Blind Football competition. The players and the coaching team want to learn as much as possible, and hopefully cause an upset or two along the way," said Harrison.

"It's a Paralympic sport and played in over 50 countries worldwide and at the top level it is played at a tremendous speed. In Ireland, we've been developing the game steadily for five years and we now have regional training centres in Dublin, Cork and Sligo.

"For the players travelling, it's a dream come true to compete in these qualifiers and play the game they love. It seemed that Ireland would never be able to generate enough players to compete internationally, but the addition of a few extra players in the last year has given everyone the opportunity to push on.

"There are some young children playing in our regional centres, so hopefully this current team can inspire them to keep training and improving in the hope of one day representing their country."

Harrison insists that new players and coaches are always welcome to take part and further information they should contact nick.harrison@fai.ie

Blind Football is a 5v5 game played on a hard surface, 20m x 40m, with kick-boards on both sides of the pitch. The ball used contains ball bearings to make a noise and give the players a chance to know where it is.

All four outfield players wear blind eye patches and blindfolds to ensure no light gets in. The goalkeeper is fully sighted. Additionally, three coaches are allowed to speak with players during a game to provide direction and advice.

Argentinean coach says Neymar is better than Messi

Former Argentina fitness coach Carlos Dibos, says Neymar Jr. is a better player and leader than Lionel Messi. Dibos questioned Messi’s ability to inspire the team as Diego Maradona once did and said the captain can no longer be considered the best player in the world. Dibos should expect a statement of condemnation from Barcelona soon.

“I do not think it’s wrong for a player to have a dialogue with the coach as to who he prefers or would chose to have next to him, but that player has to have personality, courage, bravery, to be able to carry the team on his shoulders… that was Diego Armando Maradona.

“That player has to feel that the shirt represents a huge number of Argentines and that we all want the best. Diego represented that and, for me, Leo does not.

“It doesn’t mean that he is bad. For me, he’s among the three best players in the world, but he’s not the best. Today, Neymar is better.”

“Now the truth is out, we’re sick [of his behaviour] in Argentina. We’re going to make that very clear,” Dibos, the brother-in-law of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, said.

Dibos worked as a physical preparation coach for Argentina between 2006 and 2008.

Argentina are facing a tough battle to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, their 2-0 defeat to Bolivia in La Paz leaves them in fifth place in the CONMEBOL qualifying section with four matches left. Messi was banned for their latest loss after he was hit with a punishment by FIFA for swearing towards an official and, unless an appeal against his suspension is successful, the Barcelona forward will not return until the final qualifier against Ecuador in October.

“My soldier father did not want me to play football” – Wilfred Ndidi

Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi says he went against the wishes of his parents in becoming a professional footballer. If not because Wilfred Ndidi’s father is a soldier, we would have said he lives under a rock but we won’t say it so that soldiers won’t storm our office. At a time and age when parents encourage their wards to play football, Wilfred’s dad did not want him to play football. We won’t blame the old man, he probably did not know how talented Wilfred is, but we are sure he is convinced and in full support of Wilfred’s career now.

“My family were not really into football,” he said

“My dad watched it on the television but he didn’t want me to play football. He is a soldier, but he didn’t want me to follow in his footsteps, he just wanted me to go to school.

“I did miss out on some school because of football. When I moved to Nath Boys academy then I started to miss out on some of my schooling.

“My family haven’t been over to see me play yet. They only see it on TV.”

The 20-year-old Nigeria international joined the Premier League champions from Belgian side Genk in January and has been a first-team regular since.

My dream is to coach Messi – Sampaoli drops Barcelona hint

Argument in some quarters is that all a coach needs to win a trebble is to be in charge of Barcelona with Lionel Messi in the team, cue in Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique. They even believe if Ladan Bosso gets the opportunity, he will win the trebble. Sevilla’s coach, Jorge Sampaoli says it is his dream to work with Messi, he also suggested that all a team needs to win matches is a happy Messi.

“My dream is to be in charge of Messi to see him every day from the touchline,” Sampaoli said

“It’s a unique dream to see Messi so close up, always.

“The form Messi is in is incredible. Who wouldn’t like to be in charge of him? If you help a determining player be happy, you have 95 percent of the game sorted.

“These are like the days in which Maradona was good. It’s very difficult for a team, when Leo is good, to lose.”

Sampaoli is rumoured to be on the shortlist of candidates to replace Luiz Enrique who will be stepping down as Barca coach at the end of the season. The Chilean has yet to accept Sevilla’s offer to extend his contract for another year, with his current deal expiring in June 2018.

“Not even Jesus pleased everyone” – Ronaldo’s bust sculptor defends his work

If you have seen the the bust of Cristiano Ronaldo unveiled at Madeira airport on Wednesday, there is only one conclusion that could come to mind, the sculptor is a Messi and or Barcelona fan who is bent on insulting Ronaldo. The bust looks like anything else but Ronaldo. The sculptor, Emanuel Santos, however said he could not have pleased everybody and has not taken any of the derision to heart. Putting our judgement mildly, Santos should not have been paid for the bust, he should be sued for ‘defamation of character’.

“It’s impossible to please the Greeks and the Trojans. Not even Jesus pleased everyone,” he said. “This is a matter of taste, it’s not as simple as it seems. I have seen the work of great artists that follow this parameter. What matters is the impact this work generated.

“There is always the possibility of producing something that looks different, I was already prepared for all of that. I used some photos of Cristiano Ronaldo that I found on the internet as a base, not one photo specifically. I put the photos by my side and started working on the bust.”

The statue was presented to the public as part of the celebrations this week that saw the local airport renamed Aeroporto Internacional da Madeira, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Leicester vs Stoke City

It’s obvious Leicester plays much better since the Italian coach left the position earlier this Year, as the team proved it away to West Ham last time out by taking 3:2 victory. They didn’t have more of the ball possesion neither did threaten more than their opponents, but somehow looked like much more mature side and always knew what they wanted on the field.

The Foxes took the lead in 5th minute via Mahrez and doubled up the lead two minutes later via Huth, while the hosts temporarily replied via Lanzini in 20th minute, but Vardy reinstalled two goals lead before the halftime break. Players of West Ham only managed to reduce again, in 63rd via Ayew, but that was all. Leicester is now at fifteenth position having six points more than relegating worried Hull City and if they continue in the same manner, they’ll be safe very earlier than the last rounds of Premier League.

Hosts should be playing in 4-4-2 formation with Vardy and Okazaki as forwards. Central defender Molla Wague (no performance for the first team for now anyway) remains injured, while doubtful for this match are central defender Wes morgan (27/1) and midfielder Nampalys Mendy (4/0).

$250 Bonus

Claim now For new US players

Stoke City, on the other side, didn’t manage to get a proper result in front of own fans against way more stronger and superior Chelsea last time out two weeks ago. Visitors took the lead in 13th minute via Willian, with the hosts responding in 38th from a penalty kick taken by Walters and managing to hold onto that result for a longer time.

However, Blues took the victory with a late goal from Cahil in 87th minute, deservedly must be said since they attacked and dominated the game for the most of the time, while the hosts stood playing with a man less in last moments of the game when defender Bardsley got excluded. Stoke is now at ninth position having twelve points more than relegated Hull, but without chances to get involved into the battle for European positions.

Visitors are set to play in 4-2-3-1 formation with Berahino as striker, plus Arnautovic, Allen and Sobhi as offensive midfielders. Midfielder Stephen Ireland (no pefrormance anyway) continues to be injured and long term absentee, while suspended for this match is right defender Phil Bardsley (15/0). Right back and sometimes central defender Glen Johnson (16/0) is doubtful.

  • Leicester have scored at least 3 goals in their last 3 matches (Premier League).

Leicester have won four consecutive matches since Claudio Ranieri’s sacking and I don’t see the team stopping here. They are far away from a safe side in relegation battle and with competitive motive being on their side, I definitely see them a bit more motivated, but also a bit more quality side here.

Jose Mourinho: European qualifiers are a joke

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has described the European qualifiers has one of the works of either Frank Donga or Basketmouth.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, the Portuguese stated the similarities between the European qualifiers and attending AY Live.

“In Europe, the qualifiers are a joke. We qualify and who doesn’t goes straight to the playoffs, where there is a brutal difference between the teams. In South America, the qualification stage is a true competition that lasts two years.

Like the feeling that comes with attending Owambe without eating food, Jose Mourinho says the European qualifiers makes him angry.

“The European qualifiers make me angry,” he added. “The South American qualifiers excite me. I enjoy football taken seriously, not for fun.

“In the South American qualifiers, football is serious, there are a lot of good teams, on similar levels. Even those who aren’t as strong as the others find some way to create difficulties.

Asked about the possibility of coaching Brazil one day, Mourinho says he can’t come and die since he wasn’t the one who betrayed Jesus.

“I think after Manchester United I need an easier job, and coaching the Brazilian national team would be harder,”.

Waregem vs Anderlecht

Waregem made a really great success in the previous official game played now almost two weeks ago, as the team managed to win the Cup finals game against Oostende in a really difficult, but also very interesting game as well, since they won the game after penalty kicks and 2:2 score in the regular time, with both rivals scoring each more in the overtime.

As for the domestic league, they come from a 1:3 victory away from home against Eupen week earlier, as the side secured the third position in the league with such outcome and are now entering the play-off stage having just four points less than leaders from Anderlecht and three less than Champions League placed Club Brugge. It means that the team needs to get a victory here in order to stay in the title fight. Home team won’t be able to count at first choice goalkeeper Bossut (18/0) who is injured, same as defender De fauw (24/3).

Anderlecht, on the other side, manage to secure their qualification into the quarter-finals of Europa League, as the side won narrowly 1:0 at home against Cypriot side APOEL two weeks ago, earning their progress with a 2:0 victory on aggregate result. They will be playing against Manchester United in the quarter-finals stage.

The side finished regular part of Jupiler League with a 3:0 victory in front of own fans against Waasland-Beveren, dominating the game a lot from the first minute and scoring all three goals inside the first halftime (Bruno, Teodorczyk and Mbodji). The side remained first at the table with now just a point more than second placed Club Brugge and surely also remain in a must win situation. Guests miss midfielder Najar (9/0).

I expect both sides to come up with quite offensive tactics for this one. They both aim to win and anything but a victory would complicate their future a lot. Recent matches are speaking in favor of goals, while both of the sides anyway have much better attack than what their defensive lineups are reliable.

Guingamp vs Nancy

Guingamp dind’t look anywhere close to well, like in previous couple of matches, last time out when the team visited Angers and suffered 3:0 defeat. Despite having equal ball possession to their opponents, the side did very little in attack, with the hosts remaining more dangerous with the home team risking more and deservedly celebrating the victory.

They open up the scoreline in 63rd minute via Bamba, but doubled it up just six minutes later via Mangani sealing the victory in 83rd minute with a goal from Diedhiou. This defeat broke their mini run of two undefeated matches, as Guingamp remains tenth at the table, having ten points more than relegating worried Nancy. In front of own fans they remain strong with 8-3-3 record so far and no doubt that the side wants to continue positive momentum.

Sloan Privat returned from injury, but will most likely start from the bench. Injured are goalkeeper Romain Salin (1/0), left full back Dorian Leveque (2/0) and offensive midfielder Nicolas Benezet (5/1) all with very limited influence so far.

Nancy, on the other side, comes from quite difficult 2:3 defeat in front of own fans against Lorient two weeks ago. Outcome is especially difficult and poor for their psychology, since the team had 2:0 lead in the first halftime thanks to goals from Maouassa and Dia, but completely collapsed in the second halftime.

Players of Lorient played a bit more riskier and took advantage of it, reducing the deficit in 68th minute via Moukandjo, but also using the lack of concentration of home players, scoring twice more in last ten minutes via Lautoa and Mvuemba. Nancy is now at eighteenth position with just three points more than rock bottom placed Lorient and tied up with safely placed Dijon. It was another continuation of poor results, as the team suffered seven defeats and has just one draw in last eight Ligue 1 matches.

Midfielder Beneoit Pedretti (22/1) is suspended for this one, while injured remain left back and sometimes central defender Tobias Badila (21/1) and midfielders Youssef Ait Bennasser (22/3) and Abdou Karim Coulibaly (9/0). Doubtful for the match remains midfielder Faitout Maouassa (7/1) due foot injury.

  • Nancy have lost 7 of their last 8 matches (Ligue 1).

Guingamp is playing way better in front of own fans and I expect them to bounce back with much better performance here. Nancy is far away from their best form and have really big problems in attack, since they remain goalless on the road in last four Ligue 1 matches. Having that in mind, I don’t see the visiting team remaining very competitive in this one.

Troyes vs Orleans

Troyes did really well last time out away from home as the team managed to get a three pointer in on the road game against Bourg Peronnas following their 4:2 victory. Hosts were the ones who had better entrance into the match and took the lead in 12th minute from a penalty kick taken by Boussaha. However, visitors looked much more threatening and managed to score three before the halftime whistle, via Azamoum, DIngome and Niane, while the hosts stood playing with a man less in 42nd minute when midfielder Nirlo got red carded.

Gusts scored once more, again via Niane in 63rd and practically sealed the victory while the hosts reduced the deficit in 74th via Merdji, while Troyes staying with a man less in last moments of the game when defender Traore got red carded. Overall, chances and ball possession were quite shared, but the players of Troyes were much more effective with the chances they created. The team is now at sixth position with just two points less than third and play-off placed Strasbourg and remaining in a must win position in this one.

Home team will miss suspended defenders Charles Traore (19/1) and Christophe Herelle (25/0), plus injured forward Raphael Caceres (14/1).

$2500 Bonus

Claim now For new US players

Orleans, on the other side, comes from a point taken in front of own fans against GFC Ajaccio 1:1 in the game played two weeks ago. They were the ones who took the lead, in 16th minute via Youssouf, but the visitors replied in next attack just a minute later via Kemen. Game was quite a defensive one later on, with neither of the teams risking a lot in order to get the three pointer and the final outcome seems more than fair.

With this point taken, Orleans maintained mini run of matches without a victory extending it now to three, as they remain second from the bottom at the table with just a point less than safely placed Tours and need to get something out of this match, even though their record away from home (2-2-10) is far away from promising. Guests will be missing suspended defender Gauthier Pinaud (19/0), injured midfielder Matthieu Ligoule (22/0) and forwards Khaled Ayari (17/4, second top scorer) and Kevin Dupuis (9/0) both also injured.

There’s plenty of more individual quality that speaks in favor of Troyes in this one. With the help of their fans, I expect home team to get the victory easy or hard against the worst travellers in Ligue 2.

WU19: Connell picks strong squad for elite round

WU19s.jpg

Ireland will set up camp in Limerick with each of their games being played in Markets Field at the beginning of April as they set about securing a place in this summer's finals tournament in Northern Ireland.

A number of the Under 19s squad have already gained senior squad experience with striker Leanne Kiernan, midfielder Roma McLaughlin and goalkeeper Amanda McQuillan all in Cyprus for the Cyprus Cup.

Head Coach Dave Connell admits he has a strong team to pick from and was delighted to see a number of players get game-time with the senior squad.

Connell said: "On paper, it's a strong team. We're carrying a couple of niggles coming into it so hopefully all will be well on Tuesday for the first game.

"Some of the squad were able to get game-time in the Cyprus Cup which is great for them as that can be a valuable experience to have at an early age."

The WU19s have recorded some fantastic results over the past year with wins over Czech Republic, Portugal and Italy, and go into the Elite Stage full of confidence.

He continued: "We've always set our standards fairly high and we've had some fantastic results over the past year so we just need to build on that continuity.

"Our target from the word go has been to qualify for the European Championships. It's a tough group for us, taking one game at a time, but we fully focused on the task at home."

The WU17s qualified for the UEFA European Championships in May with wins over Serbia and Hungary, and a draw against Scotland. Connell has admitted there is a bit of 'healthy competition' between the two groups and that the players will benefit from playing in a great 'sporting City', Limerick.

He added: "It was great to see the Women Under 17s qualify. The groups get on really well with a number of 17's in and out of our squad. It's a bit of healthy competition I suppose and hopefully we'll be able to have two female teams in the European Championships this summer.

"It's a great ground for the players to play in. Limerick is a great sporting City and they're looking after us brilliantly. It would be great to get the support of the public down here and we're really looking forward to the week ahead."

Goteborg vs Malmo

Allsvenskan have the honor to present the most intense opening round that can possibily be offered, when the Swedish version of “el clasico” is on the premier menu between IFK Goteborg and Malmo FF – two giants in Swedish football. This is not only interesting due to the rivalry, but also because of the way their last match ended on this stadium last season – when Malmo were awarded a 0-3 victory due to the home supporters behaviour and attacking the visiting player, Tobias Sana (former Goteborg player) during warm up. As you can hear, this is more than a football match

For the first time in many seasons, Goteborg does not enter with huge expectations. The club has been known for their organized structure and defensive stability for many seasons, but this started to fade last year when Goteborg conceded 47 goals in total, despite finishing fourth. A relegated team conceded 52 in comparison, so the defense was a clear weakness. Goteborg have already gotten a taste of competitive matches due to their participation in the Swedish cup where they faced lower tier teams and progressed to the quarter finals where they were knocked out by Norrkoping at home. Once again, the defense suffered.

Goteborg have made changes in their squad, for example veteran goal keeper John Alvbage left the team. Instead, Pontus Dahlberg (born 1999) will likely be given the chance in goal this season. He is inexperienced but talented – it is therefore difficult to judge the stability at the back for the time being. Other significant new names in the squad includes both central midfielders Abdul Razak from AFC United and Max Diskerud from New York City on loan. Winger Henrik Bjordal is also new on loan from Brighton, and is seen as a replacement for previous winger Jakob Ankersen who went to Belgium, who was a vital piece for Goteborg last year. There are surely some questionable areas in Goteborg’s coming season, where they are for once considered as dark horses for the title, and not a pre-assumed favorite.

Claim now For new US players

Malmo have not lost against Goteborg (either home or away) in five years. These battles are always intense and tactical. Malmo have also undergone key changes, starting with the sacking of coach Allan Kuhn, who won the title last season but still did not get an extension. It clearly shows that there are super high demands in Malmo – a title is not enough – you must win in convincing fashion. Magnus Pehrsson is the new coach of Malmo and is coming from his previous job as Estonian national team coach. He is known to play with a high pressing style and have very intense practices, and focus a lot on what to do with the ball on the opposing half. Malmo have lacked the ability to score goals during pre season, but have created many chances.

Winger Jo-Inge Berget will miss the game for the visitors, while center back Rasmus Bengtsson is long term injured. The absence of Berget means that Malmo might lack in their pressing game, as he is known to be the hardest working player in the team.

In terms of new additions to the team, the Swedish champions only signed center back Lasse Nielsen from Gent. Other than that, the team is very much the same as last year which is good for consistency purposes. Usually many Swedish teams have an incredibly high player turnover and rarely get to play together for more than a season – Malmo will have an opportunity to build on their successful previous season.

This is a huge game, and the fact that it happens on Allsvenskans opening day is even bigger. Malmo have made no secret about their goals – win Allsvenskan and reach Champions League. Goteborg have openly said that they see themselves as underdogs this season without pressure, but undoubtely it is vital to not lose the opening game. Malmo with a positive record against Goteborg the last 5 years is likely to continue. It will be a battlefield, it will be nervous and low risk taking, but Malmo should be closer to the win. With that reasoning, Draw no Bet on the visitors will be the pick.

Monaco’s Mbappe says he is not good enough for Real Madrid

Monaco’s wonder-kid and possibly the world’s most atrocious sales man, Kylian Mbappe says he is not in the league of Real Madrid players yet and also suggested that he would rather walk instead of using Uber on his way to the top. Mbappe, who would struggle to sell water to a fish, admitted his quality is still no where near that of Real Madrid’ squad despite rumors of interest from the Spanish giants.

Speaking after France’s 2-0 loss to Spain on Tuesday, Mbappe, who could have mistaken the reporter for a priest as he spoke his church mind on rumors to Real Madrid.

“At the moment I am at Monaco,” he told reporters. “We go along step by step. Madrid is for players at the peak of their careers, and I am not there yet.

Kylian Mbappe is one of the reasons why Manchester City’s owners have launched a man hunt for the person who recommended Pep Guardiola to them, as his performance bundled the English side out of the Champions League. When his mates are still doing their assignments with their parents, 18 year old Mbappe is already doing big things by hitting double digits in goals in all competitions for Monaco this season but he is not letting that get to him.

“I have been brought up, and have people around me, to help me keep my feet on the ground. What I want is to play football, score goals, win games and trophies. Every player has their career.”

Barcelona condemns Messi’s ban

F.C Barcelona have condemned Lionel Messi’s four-match-ban for insulting a referee. Messi was suspended from four international matches for insulting the linesman during Argentina’s 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Chile last week. Barcelona have issued a statement in support of the Argentine before someone gets sacked or Messi gets angry and refuses to sign another contract.

“FC Barcelona expresses its surprise and outrage at the actions of the Office of Disciplinary Committee of FIFA to sanction the player Leo Messi after the qualifying match of the FIFA World Cup between Argentina and Chile,” a statement read.

“The club considers the sanction of four games imposed against Messi unfair and totally disproportionate.

“Finally, FC Barcelona wishes to reiterate its support for Leo Messi, an exemplary athlete, for his behaviour on and off the pitch.”

The ban was announced some hours before the Abiceleste’s game at Bolivia. In Messi’s absence, Edgardo Bauza’s team lost 2-0 in La Paz, leaving them fifth in CONMEBOL qualifying and facing the prospect of needing to win an inter-confederation play-off if they are to reach the World Cup in Russia.

Pique has a reputation of talking anyhow – Sergio Ramos replies Gerard Pique’s criticisms of Real Madrid

As the Real Madrid vs. Barcelona battle continues even off the field, Sergio Ramos has responded to Gerard Pique’s criticism of the Madrid club that they [Madrid] lack values. Ramos suggested that Pique has a reputation of running his mouth anyhow like tap. He says the Barcelona center-back can not be taken serious. To him, Pique is just like a vendor shouting at Oyingbo market.

“What Pique says won’t change the values, our badge, our history or our titles,” Ramos said. “What he says will provoke headlines and sell newspapers but we live off of that.

“In every box seat strings are pulled, but if anything, [Barcelona] should in general have more to be quiet about than we do.”

“The statements, if they came from [Andres] Iniesta, would annoy [Madrid]. From Pique? No,” Ramos said. “That’s part of Pique’s character. We’re not going to change him a the age of 30. We have to enjoy him as a great footballer.”

Ramos played alongside Pique as Spain defeated France 2-0 in Paris.

Real Madrid lack values – Gerard Pique

Barcelona center-back, Gerard Pique has started pouring petrol in the fire as the el clasico draws near. The vocal Pique says he does not like the values of the Madrid club and he will never work there. He also alleged that someone at Real Madrid has been causing troubles for his Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Neymar, possibly referring to the duo’s recent legal troubles. Maybe when one tenders to Shakira’s hips, he finds his voice.

“I don’t like the values Real Madrid transmit, although there are players there I really appreciate with and am friends with,” Pique said. “I don’t doubt Raul’s loyalty to Madrid, but I’d never work at Real Madrid.

“What I don’t like about Real Madrid is how those in the box seats pull the strings. The person who accused Messi and Neymar and who has a different treatment for Cristiano [Ronaldo] is in those box seats.

“I don’t know the name of the judge. We aren’t going to keep a [grievance] list like [Jose] Mourinho does. We know how this works. Like this one, there are others.”

“I have no issues with the players,” he said. “They are all my friends and I play cards with them.”

Pique was in action for the former World Champions as they defeated France 2-0 in Paris.
