Methuselah’s age mate Francesco Totti has decided to hang up his boots at the end of the season after 24 years in Roma. Totti, who probably started his career the same century the bible was written, has made over 600 appearances for capital team but just one start this season under Luciano Spalleti.
Totti’s retirement was announced by the club’s new sporting director Monchi (the same guy who left Sevilla this season after years of turning Europa League into their cup as well as bargains in the transfer market).
“In terms of Totti, I already knew that there was an agreement with the club that this would be his final year as a player, then he’d start as a director,” Monchi said. “Francesco is Roma, I want to be as close to him as possible. I’d love to learn even 1% of the huge amount that he knows.”
However, Francesco Totti hasn’t confirmed his retirement and when he was asked if last Sunday’s clash against rivals Lazio was his last derby, the veteran Italian suggested those who said it maybe suffering from malaria in their brain.
