Shamrock vs Bray

After some positive results and performances in previous weeks, Shamrock disappointed last Friday evening as the team suffered quite heavy 4:1 defeat away to Cork City. Even though defeat was more than expected, the difference could have been smaller, as well as overall much more of competitive spirit from the visiting side.

They actually even took the lead in 16th minute with a goal from Clarke, however home team increased the tempo and put pressure on their defense, finding an equalizer in 45th minute via Delaney, while everything got more complicated for the away team at the start of second halftime when midfielder McAllister got red carded. It was easy for the players of Cork to reach the victory, thanks to goals from Morrissey in 66th, Delaney again in 82nd minute and Dunleavy during the additional time. Shamrock now stands at fifth position, having five points less than Europa League placed Bray and remains in a must win situation for this one.

Left back Luke Byrne (4/0) is out for some time now, while central midfielder David McAllister (11/2) won’t be playing being suspended now.

Bray, on the other hand, were quite favorites to get all three points in front of own crowd last Friday evening, but the team took just a point in a 2:2 home draw against Sligo Rovers. Start of the game was very interesting, since we saw three goals inside the first fifteen minutes with the home team taking the lead in fourth via Greene.

Leahy replied in tenth minute, but the hosts quickly responded in 13th minute reinstalling the lead via Connolly. They missed some decent chances to double up the lead, while they paid the price with another equalizing goal in 63rd minute again via Leahy. Neither of the team was really willing to risk towards the end, even though the home side again had better chances, as Bray comes up from two consecutive draws now with three matches without a victory in Premier Division (previous draw away to Drogheda and a narrow loss at home to Bohemians). Bray is now third at the table and a victory is a must here if they are to revert their psychology from recent matches.

Midfielder Keith Buckley is doubtful due to a foot problem, while other Daragh Noone only returned to training on Sunday after a long term thigh injury and surely won’t be playing in this one. Right back Conor Earley (4/0) remains sidelined too.

Goals look like granted in this one for me. Both teams need to respond with better performances and points here, while they have plenty of attacking potential in comparison to reliability of their defensive lineups. Shamrock needs to improve after heavy defeat, while fourth consecutive game without a victory for Bray would be really too much and I have no doubts that they both will be much more offensive than the odds suggest.
