Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles have crashed out of the ongoing 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas, the Eagles lost their final group game 2-1 to Iran on penalties after full time ended 4-4. The Eagles thus ended their sojourn in the Bahamas after preparing for the tournament as if they were going to Bahamas to enjoy the luxuries of the beach.
Bartholomew Ibenegbu, Victor Tale, Emmanuel Ohwoferia and Godspower Igudia scored for Nigeria to cancel out a brace from Mohammad Ahmadzadeh and two overhead kicks from Mohammad Mokhtari before the match went into penalties.
After regulation and extra time could not settle matters, it was Iran that held their nerve in the penalty shoot-out to finish second in the group and set up a quarter-final clash with Switzerland while the Super Sand Eagles return to Nigeria to continue playing on artificial turfs for their NPFL sides.
