Arsene Wenger says he is ready to make Jose Mourinho his personal person after years of bad blood between the pair. Since the arrival of the Portuguese in 2004, Wenger and Mourinho have threatened world peace with their constant war of words that has sometimes turned physical.
Speaking ahead of his clash against Manchester United this weekend, Wenger says he is open to peace between him and Mourinho.
“Look, I’m always open in life for everything, for peace,” Wenger told a news conference on Thursday. “I try to respect everybody, and I don’t want to make a case of any person. I think it’s important I focus on my team.”
Arsene Wenger is still holding firmly to his unwanted record of never defeating Jose Mourinho in a Premier League game but the next meeting present his best chance to do so, with Mourinho suggesting he could field a weakened side due to their plans to win the Europa League and use it as one-way into the Champion League.
“I don’t know what Manchester United will do. We know anyway that they have a massive squad with quality players. Only a top-level performance will get us the win we want,”
With transport experts already warning on an imminent scarcity of buses in many public places as most buses are expected to be parked at the Emirate stadium on Sunday, Wenger still believes Manchester United are professional three points pick pockets and they could be their next victim if his players fail to listen to Wiz Kid’s advise in “Don’t dull”.
“I believe they will certainly try to be defensively solid but they will try to win the game as well,” Wenger said. “For them it is like for us, both teams are in the position where they have to win the game to have a little chance to be in the top four. Of course every big game boosts your confidence, but for us more than focusing on the fact it is Manchester United, a big club and a big rivalry over the years, what is important is to have the chance to achieve our target,” he said. “We have no choice, we have to beat them.”
