Norrkoping vs AIK
Allsvenskan have started to take shape and segmented the expected top teams from the rest of the league. Norrkoping and Malmo will, by the looks of it, compete for the title until the end, while there are some competition from remaining dark horses. AIK is a side with a lot of quality, but have had immense difficulties to get any capacity out of the team. The battle between Norrkoping and AIK is however, on paper and for the sake of the standing, a game loaded with excitement.
AIK had gone five straight matches without conceding a goal, and earned a feared reputation – but that streak got a bitter end, when Malmo scored the winner in the last kick of the game, as so many times this season. It was a match which apart from the disappointment, also will be tough to reset physically and mentally with such a short notice, before another big clash against title competitors, Norrkoping. While AIK have had their strenghts defensively, the offense has been toothless! The midfield possess a lot of creativity, but the strikers Eero Markkanen and Sulejman Krpic have been unable to be effective up front and have rightfully been heavily questioned.
The visitors AIK will be without their normally main striker Henok Goitom (6/1) due to injury, but also Eero Markkanen (9/1) is suspended. Moreover, the midfield engine on the offensive front, Stefan Ishizaki (9/1). Captain defender Nils Eric Johansson (8/1) is also a doubt.
$2500 Bonus
The hosts, Norrkoping have rested well and had two days more of rest than their opponents, AIK, who played a highly intense match versus Malmo with a bitter loss. Norrkoping on the other hand have really found their flow and are coming into this home fixture with four consecutive victories, and a solid scoring streak, with nine goals in their last four matches. The club won the championship in 2015 and remained competitive in 2016, and look to be challenging again in this years competition.
Norrkoping style of play is very individually skilled wing players in Niclas Eliasson (8 assists in 11 matches), and Niklas Barkroth (2 assists and 2 goals in 11 matches), along with strikers who make the most with the opportunities in Kalle Holmberg and Sebastian Andersson. Their inner midfielders cover a lot of space with their running capacity which often leads to good control of the games – especially on home turf. These are cruical points for both sides, but the directions are pointing opposite ways for these sides.
Norrkoping have a fully eligible squad to operate with in this important clash, with no significant absentees.
Adding the factor that Norrkoping are playing their home games on a quick artificial turf, which invites for fast paced football with scoring chances, and for a side like the hosts in their current shape, it looks like a promising opportunity, to face AIK on a short notice with travel included, after a demotivating in the last minute. The hosts are mentally more prepared for this clash, and more rested with motivation for the title hunt to keep even steps with Malmo. For the stated reasons, the value is clearly on the home side.

Basel vs St Gallen
Basel have won yet another Super League title few weeks ago, so they had a chance to rotate a bit and give opportunity to some players that didn’t play so much earlier in the season. Therefore, they had four matches without a victory run, in order to test some younger guys, but also to rest their team for the Cup’s finale.
However, the side bounced back to their winning streak when it was needed the most, as they overpowered Sion 3:0 in the Cup’s finale, while they also come from a victory, last Sunday evening as the team won over Grasshoppers away from home with a 3:1 result. They were eager to show their best against old rival, taking the lead in 42nd minute via Akanji and even though the hosts equalized in 63rd minute via Ciao, Basel deservedly reached the victory in last five minutes with two goals from Doumbia.
Talented goalkeeper Djordje Nikolic (1/0) is injured, same as midfielders Kevin Bua (3/0) and Davide Calla (27/3) and won’t be playing here.
$250 Bonus
St Gallen, on the other side, had a lot of ups and downs during the season and the team failed to obtain European exit in the end after all. They were excluded from the Cup competition already in 1/8 finals to Zurich, leaving all the hopes within Super League competition.
However, streak of five defeat during April was simply too much and cost them a lot, as the team remains now at seventh position, having six points less than Europa League placed Luzern, even though they looked decent in last few weeks with three victories in last five matches. Most recently, they come from a 1:1 draw at home against Sion and should be happy with a point taken, since the guests took the lead in 64th via Ferreira and have created much more – however hosts managed to snatch a draw with a goal from Gelmi in 86th minute.
Defensive midfielder and team captain Nzuzi Toko (29/1) is injured and won’t play, same as central midfielder Sejad Salihovic (13/0).
This match is without competitive motive for either of the sides and having that in mind, I’m fully confident that the players of Basel will want to give their best in the official goodbye from their fans for this season. There is simply plenty of more individual quality in favor of Basel and I see these odds as very valuable ones.

Applications open for FAI / ETB Courses
The FAI-ETB Player Development programme enables interested participants to train full-time while also availing of a sport-themed education programme. It helps young players to achieve their potential and, in many cases, to develop a career in professional football.
The programme also prepares participants for a career in the sports and leisure industry, as well as encouraging them to improve their level of education, thus enhancing their job prospects and opportunities.
The player development side of the programme has been hugely successful with over 100 graduates going on to play in the SSE Airtricity League, while players such as Kevin Long (Burnley), Matt Doherty (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan (Preston North End) have earned call-ups to the Republic of Ireland men's senior squad.
"It was a year to savour and never to be forgotten. It prepared us for professional football and the education was a great back up. We're reaping the rewards now," said Boyle (pictured above with Fred Austin, Loughlinstown Training Centre, Annette Andrews, Baldoyle Training Centre, and Harry McCue, Course Coordinator)
The courses currently take place in venues in Clondalkin, Cabra and Irishtown in Dublin, Limerick, Castlebar, and Blarney, Carrigaline and Ringmahon in Cork. There are currently plans to expand the programme into other areas of the country.
As part of the academic side of the programme, participants will complete a QQI Level 5 in Sport & Recreation plus an ITEC Gym Instructors Diploma, Pool Lifeguard and FAI Coaching Certificates. A number of graduates have also gone on to third level institutions to continue their education.

Wenger asks for fans support as he pens new deal
Arsene Wenger has asked for the support of the fans after penning a new two-year contract. He assured the fans that he is the right man to take the club to the next level. Despite calls by a section of the fans that Wenger should leave, the Frenchman is set to spend the next two years at Arsenal. The club missed out of a top-four finish for the first time since Wenger’s arrival but it seems he (Wenger) has the nudes of the board members.
“The message to the fans is in aid of the club. Let’s be together to support our players, to support the club and all give our absolute best to be at the level that we want to be.
“We can move up to the next level, I’m convinced of that, by having faith in the way we want to play football and by supporting the players we have already.
“Of course we’ll try to strengthen our squad to be stronger next season, but we want to be faithful to the way we want to play the game. We want to support this way [of playing] all together.”
Wenger became the most successful manager in the history of the FA Cup after winning the trophy for the seventh time on Sunday, leading the Gunners to a 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Man. City chairman fires, we must win Premier League and Champions League every season
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak says he wants the Citizens to win both the Premier League and Champions League every season. City have ended the season without a trophy this term even with Pep Guardiola as their manager but Al-Mubarak does not want to see that happen again. This is a warning to Guardiola, that playing good football is not better than trophies.
“There’s no doubt it’s extremely hard to do the double, because of the nature of the Premier League and the level of competition in the Champions League,” he told Manchester City’s official website. “This is an unbelievably challenging feat to achieve, but nevertheless you would not be in the position I am if you don’t think and believe you can do it.
“The last two champions in the Premier League have won the league without playing in Europe. So that’s shown, in my view, the advantage that that puts for the people who are not competing in Europe.
“Chelsea playing in the league this year without Europe no doubt provided them with an important advantage and that’s helped them win the league, but I don’t take anything away from them,” he added.
“Winning the league is winning the league, and they’ve done an incredible job and my hat is off to Antonio Conte and his squad and the entire management of Chelsea, they’ve done an incredible job this year and the results speak for themselves.
“But nevertheless, the point remains that going into next year, no doubt, teams that are in Europe will have a more challenging experience of winning the league than teams not in Europe but that’s no excuse because, for us, our job is to try to win both the Premier League and the Champions League and to do everything we can to do so and that will remain our objective.”
The Citizens finished third in the league, 15 points behind eventual champions Chelsea, while they were knocked out of the UCL by AS Monaco at the round of 16.

Ibra’s agent says the Swede may stay in England
According to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s agent, Mino Raiola, his client might stay in England but not necessarily at Manchester United. He revealed that his client has received a number of offers, though he hopes to stay in England. Better still, England might stay in Zlatan.
“There is a possibility [he stays] but also that he does not,” he said. “We have talked, he has a lot of offers and ideas that we have to evaluate.
“He’s had a fantastic time at United and it’s now up to us and the club to decide. We have a date for that but now is time to recover.
“He wants to stay in England and at the top. If he sees he is a valuable asset for United he will stay.
“But he knows he can valuable asset for other top clubs also. I think it is respectful to talk to Manchester United and see what all parties want.”
Ibrahimovic made 46 appearances and scored 28 times during his first season at United.

Bad news for Real Madrid as star player says he may not be fit for final
It appears reggae might be mixing with Real Madrid’s blues as star player Gareth Bale admits he isn’t 100% fit for the Champions League final against Juventus in his home town, Cardiff on Saturday. Bale has spent the most part of the season with the club’s physicians but has returned to full training which could hand him a start against the Italian club.
The return of Bale to training has sprung a debate on who should start against Juventus, with Isco, the other candidate, after strings of impressive performances. Bale, who could easily be confused as a Nigerian legislator with his many days of absence, says he is not ready yet.
“I am not 100 percent, I haven’t played for six or seven weeks,” Bale said. “I obviously had my operation which still really hasn’t recovered. I have been playing with a lot of pain, even when I came back I was taking tablets to get through games and training.
“The last six or seven weeks have enabled me to rest my ankle a bit and really try to get it a bit better, and obviously recover from the [calf muscle] injury which it caused. I am not 100 percent, but I have been working hard, double sessions the last few weeks, to get myself as ready as I can, whether to start, or to be involved at some point.
“We had a practice game on Saturday so I come through it all unscathed. I feel strong, feel fit, obviously match fitness is a different thing. I obviously have battled hard to get fit for this. Now I feel finally it is healing, it is right there, almost at 100 percent.”
Like a man experiencing Pile, Gareth Bale says he won’t last long.
“If I’m called upon to start, I will start, obviously,” he said. “But to last 90 minutes, I haven’t played a lot of football this year since my operation, so that would be difficult. Obviously Isco has been playing fantastically well for us, in the end of the season, so whatever the manager requires of me I will be there to do it. The most important is to lift that Champions League trophy at the end of the game.”

Arsenal star out for five more months
Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla says he will be out for five months more after suffering a setback in his recovery from injury. He also confirmed he has agreed a new deal, having considered giving up his fight to regain fitness. The Spaniard underwent surgery for an eighth time this week and he has now revealed a return to action is still far away. He has kept the medical staff at Arsenal busy since the departure of Abou Diaby and non-availability of Jack Willshere.
“I have not been given a timeframe for my comeback,” Cazorla said.
“It is very difficult to put a date on it, but I think it will be another five months.
“It has been since October that I last played. I have undergone eight surgeries, the last one Monday. I hope that things go better. I have had complications since November. I got a bacterial infection in surgery, my bone got infected, the wound would not close and I had a graft done.
“It was the worst season of my career. You feel like throwing in the towel, but my desire to play football is above everything.”
The 32-year-old has not featured for Arsenal since a 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogorets in October due to an ankle injury.

Ramos downplays the Ballon d’Or, says he would have played tennis if he wanted individual awards
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos says he is not bothered about winning the Ballon d’Or, that he prefers winning trophies with Real Madrid. He says he would have been a tennis player if he wanted individual awards, we believe this is no shades at the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
“The Ballon d’Or? We will see what happens. It is true that Cannavaro also won it. We should not forget that,” Ramos said.
“But the most important thing for me is to win another Champions League with Real Madrid and celebrate that.
“Trophies won with the team are the most important ones for me.
“I would have played tennis if I wanted individual trophies.”
The Spanish defender could potentially become a contender and the first defender to win since Fabio Cannavaro in 2006 if he helps Madrid defeat Juve in the UCL final on Saturday.

Manchester United rated the most valuable football club in the World
According to auditors – KPMG, United have been valued at €3.004 billion (£2.61bn), ahead of both Real (€2.895bn) and Barcelona (€2.688bn). KPMG had estimated Madrid and United as being worth €2.9bn at the end of the 2015-16 season. Brazil legend tips Jesus to become one of the greatest in history
Brazil legend, Zico says Manchester City forward – Gabriel Jesus can become one of the greatest in the history of Brazil football. He says he is not surprised by the striker performances since he moved to the Premier League. Considering that many football greats have come out of Brazil, Jesus will have to do as much as turning defenders to stones (no shades intended on John Stones) to become one of the greats.
“I was not surprised because I’ve taken the word ‘surprise’ from my football dictionary. Nowadays, we see everything that happens all around the world, so you can no longer be surprised,” Zico said.
“He’s a boy that was Brazilian champion playing for one of Brazil’s biggest teams and became the Brazilian national team’s No. 9 at 19.
“I guess everybody could see that he wasn’t going to feel the difference of moving to England and playing for City, which is a spectacular team.
“If he continues to grow, he has everything to achieve that. He demonstrates everyday that he’s a great professional, with fantastic quality.
“Gabriel is a player who pursues success with hard work and competence. He has everything to become one of the greatest in Brazilian football history.”
The City striker has been an instant success following his January move from Palmeiras, scoring 7 goals in 11 appearances.

Stones steps into Zabaleta shoes
Manchester City defender John Stones has inherited the number five jersey vacated by Pablo Zabaleta. Stones had worn the number 24 jersey since his arrival from Everton but takes the number 5 jersey vacated by Zabaleta, who has departed the Etihad following the expiration of his contract. With the number on his back reduced, it is hoped Stones will defend like a proper defender next season.
He is yet to justify a £47.5 million price tag with lots of comedic defending that is worth at most 10,000 Zimbabwe dollars.
He made 41 appearances over the course of his debut campaign, scoring two goals.

Ramos: Buffon is an example
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has lauded Juventus captain – Gianluigi Buffon as an example for all footballers. The Spaniard also called Buffon a legend and says the Italian number one will be remembered as of one the best goalkeepers in the history of the game. Ramos must meanwhile hope Buffon becomes an example of a basket goalkeeper when the final of the Champion’s League is played between Madrid and Juve.
“Buffon is a legend and he will be remembered as one of the best goalkeepers in the history of football,” he said.
“He is an example for anyone who wants to live and experience this sport and he has shown that age has been no barrier.”
Buffon, 39, is aiming to win the UEFA Champions League for the first time when Juve face Madrid in the final in Cardiff on Saturday.

JJK Jyvaskyla vs KuPS
JJK Jyvaskyla finally recorded a victory last time out, as the team won three points at home against Ilves on Saturday afternoon with a 3:1 result. They entered the match in a better manner, somehow being more determined to get a positive result and weren’t affraid to attack at the beginning.
They took the lead in eleventh minute via Vielma, while Etock doubled up the lead in 29th minute. Visiting side took over the ball and dominated on the field, however without real goalscoring chances created. Hosts were stadning decently in defensive part and only conceded via penalty kick in 84th minute when Ngueukam scored, however Etock netted his second to seal the victory for the hosts. With just five points after eleven rounds, they are still at the rock bottom position, but hope for better days now as they stand just three points behind safely placed HIFK. Left midfielder Benno Hanslian (1/0) remains injured.
$2500 Bonus
KuPS, on the other side, managed to get another victory last Saturday, as the team visited Rovaniemi and didn’t have an easy game at all. They were just a bit better during all ninety minutes, but only managed to take the lead in last phase of the game, in 84th minute via Purje.
Players of Rovaniemi actually dominated in the first halftime and it looked like they might take the lead, with the visitors only being dangerous via counter attacks. However, second halftime was different and the players of KuPS were again more dangerous, reaching that goal deservedly in the end. The team is now undefeated in last five Veikkausliiga matches, having four victories and a draw in the process, being currently at second position with just two points less than leaders from HJK.
I expect home team to enter this match aggressive as they did against Ilves and if they repeat the same, we should expect an overall open and offensive clash between these two. KuPS anyway remains with a better form and are favorites, but if JJK repeats anything close from the previous game, this one should end up with three goals at least, in easy style.

Ilves vs PS Kemi
Ilves disappointed a lot last Saturday evening as the team visited JJK Jyvaskyla and most of their fans expected them to win with ease, however on their disappointed the team didn’t manage to present themselves in the best possible manner and actually suffered the defeat quite easy.
Players of JJK have entered the game much more determined, with better fighting spirit and scored the opener in eleventh minute via Vielma. Guests tried to react and had some decent approaches, however hosts doubled up the lead in 29th minute via Etock. Second halftime was spend in domination of Ilves, as their players had much more of the ball possession, but nothing much expect them as they only managed to reduce the deficit in 84th minute from a penalty kick taken by Ngueukam, while the hosts sealed the victory against the flow of the match in 88th with second goal from Etock. Ilves now stands in the middle of the table with thirteen points earned, just four less than Europa League placed VPS and aim for a victory here.
$2500 Bonus
PS Kemi, on the other side, didn’t manage to improve even further after their victory away from home against Inter Turki last Tuesday evening, as the team suffered narrow 1:0 defeat in front of own fans against VPS last Saturday afternoon.
Things to be worse, only goal was scored in fourth minute already via Hakola, as the game itself looked like pretty defensive minded one, while the home team created more and looked better towards the end of the match, but it wasn’t enough to change the scoreline after all. PS Kemi now remains with just one victory in last six rounds, being at second from the bottom position with two more than last placed JJK Jyvaskyla and just a point less than safely placed HIFK.
Ilves remains a favorite here and should get all three points, as the players surely are fired up to improve after poor performance away to Jyvaskyla. However, PS Kemi has nothing to lose in this one and I expect a bit more offensive approach from them as well – something that should open up the game and with a bit of luck, this goal should end with more than just a couple of goals scored.

Thomas Tuchel announces Dortmund in the most bizarre manner
Thomas Tuchel shocked the football after announcing that his leaving Borussia Dortmund just days after winning their first trophy in five years. Tuchel took to Twitter to announce his departure, using an account that was set up just hours before the announcement.
“I am thankful for two nice, eventful and exciting years. It’s a shame it won’t go on,” the 43-year-old German wrote. “Thanks to all the fans, the squad, the staff and to everyone who supported us. I wish BVB all the best.”
Tuchel’s relationship with Dortmund hierarchy had taken a turn for the worse since his arrival in 2015-16 season.
It is rumored that Dortmund are secretly trying to reignite the sitcom “Fuji house of commotion” after several rifts between Thomas Tuchel, Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watze, players and even the fans.
According to German newspaper Bild, there was dispute talks at the team hotel prior to being attacked on April 11, but it only lasted 21 minutes.
Local media in Dortmund reports that Thomas Tuchel is set to receive €2M in compensation, for all of his best efforts in ensuring Bayern Munich takes the Bundesliga seriously before the end of December.

Stage set for SPAR5s National Finals in the Aviva
As our Senior International teams gear up for their respective outings shortly, so too, do our future generation of young stars, as the countdown to the SPAR FAI Primary School 5s National Finals takes centre stage.
Six sections will see the schools divided in Provincial representatives in small, medium and large schools divisions. The girls are encouraged to play with the boys in the SPAR ‘A’ Cup, SPAR ‘B’ Cup and SPAR ‘C’ Cup sections but there is a separate competition for girls only; SPAR ‘A’ Girls Cup for small schools, SPAR ‘B’ Girls Cup for medium schools and the SPAR ‘C’ Girls Cup for large schools.
The event will see 192 children from 24 schools participate in the final stages of competition following four months of fun filled nationwide activity. The qualifying schools have come through their local County events, Regional and/or Provincial qualifiers to reach this stage of the competition with excitement mounting around the local areas.
12 counties will be represented in the Aviva with Galway leading the charge with 4 representatives. The Galwaigen army hail from Oranmore, Taylor’s Hill, Doorus and Raleigh Row in the City. Donegal and Monaghan have 3 schools each qualified. While Cork, Dublin, Meath, Sligo and Tipperary have 2 schools apiece. Meanwhile, Clare, Kilkenny, Limerick and Louth will each have one representative. The action will commence at 11.30am with the small schools section in boys and girls kicking us off.
This year the programme featured 1,495 schools with a total of 28,567 children participating which is a new record for the 5s programme which has been in existence since the mid-1990s.
The SPAR ‘A’ Cup has Scoil Chiaráin Naofa, Doorus, Galway (Connacht), St. Patrick’s NS, Castletown Kilpatrick, Meath (Leinster), Granagh NS, Kilmallock, Limerick (Munster) and Scoil Bhríde, Mullaghrafferty, Monaghan (Ulster) all in the driving seat for National honours. Three of the four are newcomers to this stage of proceedings apart from Granagh NS, Kilmallock who have featured previously. Seamus Murphy’s side starred in 2014 in the SPAR ‘A’ Cup with a fourth place podium finish and they were finalists as way back as 2001 in this competition.
The SPAR ‘A’ Girls Cup will have debutants Drimina NS, Tubbercurry, Sligo (Connacht),
Boyerstown NS, Mullaghmore, Meath (Leinster), Little Flower NS, Ballytarsna, Cashel, Tipperary (Munster), and Scoil Mhuire, Caiseal, Fánaid, Donegal (Ulster) in the melting pot for the small girls schools section. Boyerstown NS, Meath will be in familiar territory. Principal Cathal O’Bric led the Mullaghmore boys to the Aviva back in 2015 when the team came a gallant fourth in the SPAR ‘B’ Cup for medium schools. This week will see the return of the Meath outfit as the girls contest the SPAR ‘A’ Girls Cup for small schools. It will be a delightful outing for the crew as three of the boys sisters feature this week with Daragh Reilly’s sister Orlaith, Adam Roger’s sister Alana and Kyle Cosgrove’s sister Amber all lining out for a family affair on Wednesday. The girls will be hoping to emulate the lad’s success and perhaps go one better this time out. Elsewhere, Seán Carr, Chairman of FAI Schools will have a keen interest in this division as his former primary school, Scoil Mhuire, Caiseal, Fánaid will be in action for the Ulster kingpins.
The SPAR ‘B’ Cup will see a broad geographic remit covered as Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Ballymote, Sligo (Connacht), St. Peter’s NS, Dromiskin, Louth (Leinster), Scoil an Athar Tadhg, Carraig na bhFear, Cork (Munster) and Dooish NS, Ballybofey, Donegal (Ulster) try to make a top of the table finish. Under the stewardship of Patricia Hunt, the teacher guided the girls from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Ballymote, Sligo to third place in the SPAR ‘B’ Girls Cup in 2011 when Leah Victoria Park, Tullamore Town FC hosted the Nationals. She will relish the chance for her boys team to play in the marvellous surrounds of the Aviva come match day as they compete in this division with John Lavin lending a hand. This should be an exciting contest with all four schools impressing in the provincial stages.
Carnmore NS, Oranmore, Galway (Connacht), Kilkenny School Project, Kilkenny (Leinster), Ballyea NS, Ennis, Clare (Munster) and Gaelscoil Ultain, Monaghan (Ulster) make the cut for the medium schools in the SPAR ‘B’ Girls Cup. Monaghan’s Gaelscoil Ultain will make their fourth appearance in the history of this competition. The Gaelscoil previously qualified in 2002, claiming fourth in the ‘A’ Girls Cup for small schools. A purple patch saw the school return in 2011 and 2012 with fourth place in both years in the same division for medium schools. What can Joe Ó’Gallchóir’s charges do this season as they compete yet again in the ‘B’ Girls Cup with Sinéad Nig Uidhir assisting? David Weadick’s Kilkenny School Project will have the youngest team competing this season with 10 year old Millie Gilsenan the youngest participant of all 192 players. It will be a family affair as sister’s Jenny and Kate Beirne Bowden line out alongside twins Enya and Chiara Cardillo.
An array of talent will be on display in the SPAR ‘C’ Cup for large schools. All four teams will be at full strength for the final showdown. Scoil Iognaid, Galway (Connacht), St. Ciaran’s NS, Hartstown, Dublin (Leinster), Nenagh CBS Primary, Tipperary (Munster), St. Joseph’s BNS, Carrickmacross, Monaghan (Ulster) will take to the field with an even contest in store. 2014 saw teachers Jimmy Lacey and Paul Fitzpatrick make the trip to Dublin as St. Joseph’s BNS, Carrickmacross played in the SPAR ‘C’ Cup which merited a fourth place medal. Can the duo improve on this medal tally?
Scoil Róis, Taylor’s Hill, Galway (Connacht), Our Lady of Good Counsel, Johnstown, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin (Leinster), Scoil Niocláis, Frankfield, Cork (Munster) and Woodland NS, Letterkenny, Donegal (Ulster) are in the final select for the girls large schools division, SPAR ‘C’ Girls Cup. We welcome back some familiar faces to the Aviva, namely; Scoil Niocláis, Frankfield, Cork. They make their return for the second consecutive year with the talented Katie McCarthy and Ellie O’Mahony still involved with the squad. Teachers Kevin O’Connell and Jonathan Owens guided last season’s squad to a fourth place finish in this section. Can the Cork crew impress again with the experienced duo of McCarthy and O’Mahony in action for their side? Another School to grace the Aviva back in 2014 were Woodland NS, Letterkenny with Evelyn Roche actively involved. Her side were placed fourth in the SPAR ‘B’ Girls Cup for medium schools that afternoon but this year they will line out in the SPAR ‘C’ Girls Cup for large schools with Michael O’Malley leading the way. Prior to that, the Donegal outfit picked up bronze in 2010 when the boys came third in the SPAR ‘C’ Cup.
The day promises to be fun filled and action packed as the future starlets entertain the crowds in the Aviva as the final curtain comes down on the SPAR FAI Primary School 5s programme for 2017. The event will be a family fun day focusing on providing participants and spectators alike with huge excitement and entertainment, making it a day to remember for all involved.
All 192 players will receive a medal, the six winning teams will be crowned SPAR Champions for 2017 as well as a SPAR Player of the Tournament accolade in each division to be awarded. Students will also be in with a chance of securing an epic prize in the Future Sports Journalist competition which is open to all participating schools.
