Portugal vs Chile

Portugal had relatively easy task to progress from their group which they did, however results weren’t that impressive as maybe some of their fans expected. Portuguese managed to get just a point in the Cup’s opener against Mexico, even though they were leading twice, while they overpowered host nation Russia with a narrow 1:0 victory, to seal the progress against the easiest opponent in the third round.

Players from New Zealand actually weren’t much of an opponent to Portugal, who easily reached all three points, thanks to goals from Ronaldo from a penalty kick and Silva in the first halftime, while Silva scored his second in 80th and Nani wrote final 4:0 result in first minute of additional time. This was they ended the group with seven points, same as Mexico but thanks to better goal difference will be awaiting second placed side from Group B – Chile.

They should be playing in some version of 4-4-2 formation with Ronaldo and Silva as forwards. Midfielder Raphael Guerreiro probably broke his ankle in the group stage and will miss the rest of the tournament.

Chile, on the other side, started off their campaign with important and convincing 2:0 victory against Cameroon, which turned out to be priceless, as the side later on took a point against Germany which was maybe a positive surprise, especially with the way they fought against the Germans for the whole game, however showed somehow less in the third round when the side took just a point against Australia in a 1:1 draw.

Aussies looked more competitive in the first halftime and deserved the led in 42nd minute when Troisi scored a goal, however it looked like they stood without fuel in the repetition. Chileans managed to level up the result in 67th minute via Rodriguez and looked better till the end, however without fully reverting the scoreline. This way they have ended the group stage with five points, two less than first placed Germany and three more than third ranked Australia.

Chileans are set to play in 4-3-3 formation with Fuenzalida and Sanchez most likely on the wings, plus Vargas acting as central striker. Claudio Bravo overcome fitness doubts and should be playing here.

Portugal is a favorite here and should progress, however their defensive lineup doesn’t seem as reliable as they should. Chileans didn’t look that well so far, however remain very threatening in attack, while Portuguese alone can score three goals on a given day. Value is definitely here.
