Despite not kicking a bottle or pushing anyone into coma, a visibly angry Jurgen Klopp was close to unleashing on fourth official Neil Swarbrick, the kind of beating that gets you a bedroom space in a hospital.
Klopp was furious over Mark Clatternburg’s decision to award a penalty for Diego Costa’s action figure fall inside the box. With Costa subsequently missing the penalty, an overjoyed Klopp told the fourth official what can only be interpreted as a dream.
Klopp said “No one can beat us, was what I said [to Swarbrick]. Obviously that’s not true but it felt for us like this in that moment.
When reality set in, Klopp apologized to the fourth official.
I was absolutely the wrong person to say it. I said sorry — I was a bit excited. He said “No problem I like your passion.”
Diego Costa was Diego Costa as the Spanish agbero tormented every living organism at Anfield last night. Though the Spaniard failed to compound more misery on Klopp by missing the spot kick, the Liverpool boss still thinks Diego Costa is not a nice guy on the pitch.
“He is not the nicest guy on the pitch but I saw no real big incident and until someone tells me something…
“If someone tells me it was a dive maybe I will be angry tomorrow but that would be the wrong decision what, number 27, but it doesn’t make it better.”
“If I had played against Costa I could never be friends, that’s how it is, but when you have him in your team it’s much more fun. He is a warrior,” said Klopp.
“What [Antonio] Conte is doing with Chelsea is outstanding but Chelsea without Costa this season….?
