Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal has explained his face-off with Bayern Munich teammate Joshua Kimmich during the Confederations Cup final, playing down suspicions of a rift. Vidal and Kimmich were involved in an altercation that saw both men booked during the second half of the encounter. It was actually not because Kimmich said Vidal’s brain must be tattooed, as we thought.
“I was a bit angry,” Vidal explained. “I didn’t like what he was doing with his team-mates. They were winning and they were wasting time.
“I was annoyed but we are team-mates and I will see him in 20 days.”
The Bayern midfielder also refused to blame his teammate Marcelo Diaz whose mistake led to the German’s winner. Lars Stindl’s winner came heavily against the run of play in the 20th minute after Diaz turned into trouble and allowed Timo Werner to lay on a tap-in for the Borussia Monchengladbach attacker.
“There are mistakes that can happen, but there is nothing to reproach,” Vidal told reporters at Krestovsky Stadium. “I think this team is a family and when we win, all of us win.”
