Leicester vs Sunderland

Leicester took convincing and actually quite professional victory last time out, as the team welcomed Stoke City and celebrated 2:0 victory on Saturday evening. They took the lead in 25th minute with a goal from Ndidi, while Vardy quickly sealed the victory inside the first two minutes of the second halftime.

Ball possession was shared between the opponents, but players of Leicester were a lot better in attack and with much better fluency with the ball – created much better and more chances than their opponents. The team has improved their morale a lot, have four victories in a row in Premier League and are now six points ahead of relegating placed Hull City which means that they remain in a must win situation.

Leicester is set to play in 4-4-2 formation with Okazaki and Vardy as strikers. Central defender Molla Wague remains long term absentee without playing in Premiership due shoulder injury. Injured are also central defender Wes Morgan (27/1) and midfielder Nampalys Mendy (4/0) but both with some chances to play. Doubtful is left midfielder Marc Albrighton (24/0).

Sunderland, on the other side, continues to struggle a lot in recent matches and as the time progresses, they look like sure candidate for relegation this season. With nine matches till the end, they are at the last position having twenty points earned, which is eight less than safely placed Swansea.

What worries the most is their poor performances in recent weeks, as the team comes from a narrow 1:0 defeat away to Watford last Saturday evening. Only goal was scored in 59th minute via Britos, with the visiting side being limited to quite a defensive role and not threatening enough to show themselves as a dangerous side. This was their fifth game in a row without a victory, all five without a single goal scored.

Visitors from Sunderland will be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation, using Defoe as their central striker, but also with Borini, Januzaj and Larsson as offensive support behind him. Midfielder Paddy McNair (9/0) is injured, same as other midfielders Duncan Watermore (14/0), Jan Kirchhoff (7/0) and Steven Pienaar (14/0). Forwards Victor Anichebe (11/3) and Jermain Defoe (29/14) are doubtful.

  • Sunderland have lost 7 of their last 8 away matches (Premier League).
  • <

  • Leicester have scored at least 2 goals in their last 4 matches (Premier League).

Leicester plays way better football under Craig Shakespeare who became first English manager to win first four matches in charge. Hosts are playing rather well, inspired and motivated and I don’t see obviously weaker and rock bottom placed side stopping them this time. Hosts should prevail without problems in the latter phase of the game.
